Where did Dr. Cherny grow up?

On the north side of Chicago, three blocks from Lake Michigan and one block from the Jarvis Street elevated station.

What kind of name is Cherny?

Ukranian.  His parents emigrated after World War II.  The name was originally Czernigewycz.  I dare you to pronouce that!

What is Dr. Cherny's favorite food?
 
Dr. Cherny says that if he was stranded on a desert island, he'd be happy if all he could eat was Chicago style hot dogs.

  
What kind of car does Dr. Cherny drive?
 
Dr. Cherny drives a 2000 Silverado pickup that was badly dented when it slid into a ravine when Dr. Cherny was four wheeling.  He finds it amusing that everybody that works for him has a nicer car.  It does run great.

Dr. Cherny works terrible hours.  Does he do anything else?

He spends his spare time doting on his wife Ruthann and their three sons, watching TV, or sleeping.  He loves old movies, especially if they are film noir and in black and white.

What makes Dr. Cherny a unique plastic surgeon?

Aside from skill and experience, Dr. Cherny sometimes will joke that he is the overweight, short and balding plastic surgeon.  He knows very well how people feel about themselves, and what that does.  It has made him create a unique environment of total acceptance of patients as they are, with a philosophy of absolute non-judgementalism.
 
What makes Dr. Cherny happy?
 
Dr Cherny says he is happy when his patients are happy.

Who taught Dr. Cherny how to sew?

When Dr. Cherny was little his grandparents lived upstairs and it was his grandmother Bronislava who first taught him at age 5.  She would also play chess with him on the sleeping porch and let him win.

What is Dr. Cherny's favorite TV show?

House.  The show is not overly accurate, and Dr. House can be a jerk.  However, House is a great doctor and will stop at absolutely nothing on behalf of his patients (and more doctors should be that way).

Does Dr. Cherny have a favorite operation?

Not in particular.  The most fun operations for him are those where he helps his patients the most, or improves their lives the most.  Especially if the patient has been misdiagnosed by other doctors, or lost in the medical system.
